TRF in International Day in Support of Victims of Torture: Turkmen community has painful torture stories during ISIL capture of our territories and the justice system still insufficient”

On the occasion of International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, Turkmen Rescue Foundation T.R.F. participated at June 26 in a “Dialogue on Reparative justice “Ensuring Effective Reparations in Iraq”.

The event has launched in joint support by Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights, Coalition for Just Reparations, International Organization for Migration (IOM),and UNAMI in cooperation with the General Directorate for Survivors Affairs.

TRF represented in the event by Mr Amer Al Mawla, assistant CEO, and stated that Turkmen community has many painful torture stories related to crimes committed by ISIL during its capture for our territories.

Participants discussed the recommdations by UN Committee Against Torture (UNCAT) and UN Council of Human Rights focusing on conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) in Iraq and transitional Justice, Survivor Law in Iraq, the negative effects of forced recruitment of Yazidi children by ISIS. They called for following up to prosecute crimes of sexual violence in Iraq , and finding solutions to release women survivors who are still with ISIS.
